The Georgia Ports Authority in Savannah, GA, USA has awarded Conductix-Wampfler with an order for four “Drive-in L” conductor rail systems designed to provide mobile electric power to RTGs.
When fully installed, the equipment will allow four of the Konecranes RTGs to run directly from the electric power grid, which saves diesel fuel and reduces air pollution. The new, state-of-the-art “Drive-In” lets the RTG operator quickly disengage from one aisle and move to the next from inside the cab and without additional assistance.
“These will be the first Drive-In L systems to be installed in the Americas”, reports Jerry Koetting, District Sales Manager for Conductix-Wampfler, USA. “The cranes will run along four 165 meter long, back-to-back runways located at the rear of Container Berths 4 and 5 of the Garden City terminal. When the RTGs are delivered, they will be retrofitted on-site with the Drive-In L collectors. GPA will contract the installation of the conductor rail and supporting steel structure.”
The RTGs are scheduled to be installed by the summer of 2012 and the test installation will operate for six months.
